Welcome to another edition of DT's Thursday Twister, the game that has more change than a broken slot machine. This week, I want to ask you, dear reader, what is your favorite color...(or favourite colour for our British and Canadian readers...OK, the rest of the English speaking populace). 
Of course in DT style it has to be an automotive color -- so I'll start us off with my favorite shade of Subaru paint -- the 2004ish World Rally Blue.

Followed closely by Yas Marina blue (BMW M3/4) and Estoril Blue.

DeleteYeah, I'm torn. Estoril Blue is a gorgeous color on many cars.
DeleteBut IMO the E39 M5 (which was never, outside Individual, sold as Estoril Blue) looks best in Chiaretto Red. Mine is Silverstone, a pale blue which is not too common (it was the color in the original 1999 Euro-market promo literature which is why I ordered it, it's an M5-specific color, and it was replaced in 2001 with Bluewater). The blues BMW sold on the E39 M5, Le Mans Blue and Avus Blue were too dark for the car, but my favorite all time blue is probably the mid '60s GM Nassau Blue. Think Corvette Grand Sport.
Blacks and grays are never special, and silvers and solid reds rarely are (sorry Ferraristas). Some cars beg to be Dakar Yellow or Ferrari Fly Yellow but my favorite yellow is still the mid '60s Ford Sunlight Yellow.
I personally think the lemans blue is the bomb on a m5, but then I also think imola red is gorgeous... Decisions, decisions if I find the right one in my neck of the woods......

Yeah, Lemans + Caramel Heritage is one of my favorites on the e39, but from a rarity standpoint, I really like Oxford Green + Caramel.

I don't know the exact paint codes, as I believe it was a custom job. But whatever they may be, the combination has to be my favorite color scheme. I know this was not precisely what was asked, sorry.
DeleteThe green is correct, but the other color with it in 56 was a light yellow.
DeletePerhaps I should have said that I thought the Le Mans Blue and (later) Avus Blue were too dark when I bought mine, but I've mellowed on that a bit.
DeleteWhatever Ferrari called the blue on the 575M is quite acceptable to me, somewhere in the Le Mans Blue territory, should the NASDAQ happen to find a 2000-point escalator.

ReplyDeleteI'd put a photo but it's notoriously hard to reproduce, it has tiny flecks of green and other colors in it.
Apparently it is made from powdered unobtainium mixed with unicorn blood.

I've always liked the greens on the late '50s / early '60s Beetles. Used to favor Agave but my new favorite has to be Ceramic Green. Maybe this should be the color of my '66 when I finally respray it.

Now, for colour, I will nominate Bleu Myosotis, from Citroën. If rendered correctly, it is a light blue, with just a tinge of lavender (Myosotis is the flower Forget-me-not, in English).
