Sometimes, you need a new car, and other times you just need a little push. Today, we just need a push.
In truth, we want to do more with DT, so the question as to how to achieve that goal. One solution was to start charging sellers to list their car on DT, but that will certainly change the dynamic of the website to one founded for the buyers to one funded by the sellers. Eventually we'd start our own internal auction format, and listings on the site would become one huge blue-chip restoration showcase where the customer is the seller, but the readers end up footing the bill by paying high market value (plus a 5% fee) for nice cars...not that there is anything wrong with that. Another option is to get readers to help fund the site via a pay-wall, but nobody wants that either...so what if we try pledges from our readers?

ReplyDeleteFTB -- hah, yes, and thanks! Also, please don't take my comments about over priced blue-chip cars as negative, it just isn't what we (DT) are here to do. I will say that BAT auctions seems to be a great way to sell cars, from what I've seen most of the cars go for good money, and if you are cognizant of the market, you might find a good deal on something with some patience. -Vince
DeleteA buck a month? That isn't even one beer. Who's going to notice? A buck should be mandatory, not optional. I don't know how you'd enforce it, but our fearless leaders here should be up to the task. I'm going to opt out of any punishment--here's my ticket for a buck a month.

Here's how I decided to calculate how much to contribute; I added up the current street value of all my cars, took .1% of that and doubled it. Seemed appropriate, given the subject. Point one percent! I can do that.
Well, it made sense at the time.

Boots on the ground... When I am on any model specific forums (Audi, Miata, Volvo, etc) I always post a link to your website when a similar vehicle is featured to get you some traffic.
