Welcome to another edition of Mid Week Match-Up, where a bunch of random strangers give advice, we pimp our own vehicles for mad profit (spoiler alert: we don't) and everybody wins. Today's MWMU request comes from DT commenter Slowboy who writes: Alright, I've got one for you the next time you're in need of some material. I really want a new parts hauler. My e90 daily has a pretty dismal trunk, and it's rather thirsty for what it is. I want something unique, economical to drive, and either at the bottom of the depreciation curve or on the way back up the opposite side.
The trunk/bed/elcaminoization must be big enough to carry a big BMW straight six and/or the whole of a disassembled motorcycle. Towing capacity to take my wankle MGB to a race track (or at least a different garage so I could repair it) would be nice, it's a 2000 pound car, and a trailer might be another thousand. Sounds like a Citroën CX to me, but I want to get opinions.DT Ed Vince: For my money, I'd pickup this 1961 Willys Jeep custom 4x4 pickup powered by a Ford V6 engine found here on eBay
What would you recommend for Slowboy? Comments below.

What is a "wankle MGB"?
ReplyDeleteProbably a Wankle Rotary Engine powered MGB.
ReplyDeleteStill never heard of a wankle.
DeleteDoesn't that make you go blind and what does it have to do with Rosy and her five sisters?
DeleteOr would that be Rosie? Hmm...a mystery.
DeleteOr maybe it's a wankle in time. An ankle with a lisp? An uncle from a foreign land?

It's this:

The engine came out of a first gen RX7.
Maybe this works better:

Welcome to DT, SlowBoy.
DeleteK2 is commenting on the misspelling of the word Wankel (as in Felix, the inventor) as "wankle."
DeleteSorry SlowBoy, just having a bit of a playful poke at my DT pals. My typos are massive, while theirs are tiny so I have to take advantage of the situation the very few times they show up. I'm dumb but not so completely dense that I don't know what a rotary is or what it's called. To make up for it, here's a great scene from a movie featuring an RX-8. It's real, no CGI (wink wink)! Skip to about 2:10 for the action.

Gas is cheap. With 500hp you could write on the tail gate "If you can read this the B fell off"
