1k: It Followed Me Home: 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R

The B13 Sentra SE-R makes a great autocross legend or a loyal, affable commuter companion thanks to the venerable SR20 engine, well-behaving limited-slip differential, and communicative chassis. Looking like a abandoned mutt in search of a background to play in, this Sentra just needs a bath and some cosmetic fixes. With just a little effort and hardly a down payment, it would happily wear cow trails along the fenceline and into the heart of your family's financial overseer. Find this 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R in Richmond, VA for $1,000 via craigslist.

The sole picture is all we have to work with, so here's a shot of a cleaner example we found in February. We're promised mechanical security by means of a new engine and clutch in 2012, along with a battery, new cap/rotor, plugs, wires, fuel pump, alternator, and axles. Plus, it has a clean title and inspection good until May of next year. That's like taking a stray dog home only to find it's had its shots, and is house-trained too.

    Really sweet cars. It's a project, but as long as the powertrain's sound and there's no structural damage to the body it's a fairly straightforward one.

    The old early-mid '90s Infiniti G20 (Nissan Primera) had the same SR20DE and viscous limited-slip if you can find one with a manual transmission. A little more weight, but a little more room and a little nicer trim.

    I had a 1993 SE-R and still miss it. I wonder what the fifth gear popout situation is on this one...
