5k: Big And Tall: 1978 Chevrolet C10 Bonanza with 5.3 Vortec V8

Need a big, manly work truck with modern fuel injected power?  Don't spend all your hard earned cash on some late model soulless appliance, pick up a sweet looking classic from the '70s that has already had the hard work of an engine swap done by someone else.  Save that money for mustache wax and buy this 1978 Chevrolet C10 Bonanza with 5.3 Vortec V8 for sale in Guyton, GA for $6,000 via craigslist.

The third generation Chevrolet C10 pickup was built in huge quantities between 1973 and 1987. It is one of those vehicles that requires the driver to wear a flannel shirt and roll down the windows on hot days (doesn't matter if the AC works or not that arm needs to be out the window in case you need to say hi to a friend or hoot/holler at some poor lady).

Underhood is a 5.3 liter fuel injected GM Gen III Vortec V8, specifically an LM7 which came from a 2003 Chevy Tahoe.  Stock output is rated at 285 horsepower and 325 ft-lbs of torque, but this rating is conservative and more ponies are easily accessible via tuning and aspiration optimization.

The inside of this truck is a Bonanza for someone looking for a well kept C10 interior and a great surprise at this asking price.  A 4L60 automatic trans and tilt wheel should make for a relaxing cruise from home to the construction site.

  1. Lovely. And I'll bet it gets significantly better fuel economy than it used to as a nice bonus.

  2. Love the extra wide, color matched steelies - subtle but effective upgrade, with a great stock look otherwise. Nicely done.
