Who doesn't want a turbocharged car that is a few decades old and dirt cheap? Modern cars might get better fuel economy and last longer between rebuilds...but nothing beats a simple boosted 4-banger for cheap fun and today, tipper Matt C sent in the following trio of turbocharged terrors.
The third generation Mitsubishi Eclipse was a huge disappointment for speed junkies and Mitsubishi performance enthusiasts when it was released for the 2000 model year. Gone was the peppy turbocharged 4-banger and road-hugging all-wheel-drive, in its place was a ponderous sloppy suspension and V6 power mated to the bloated Chrysler Sebring (ST-22) chassis. Just about the only way you could possibly salvage the actually-not-that-bad-looking 3G Eclipse is with a General Electric Turbojet mounted in the trunk. It's well known that angular shots add movement and excitement to the subject being photographed. Too many canted (or Dutch) angles on a horizontal subject like a car become like KFC's departed Double Down sandwich: too much of a good thing that just becomes nauseating. Perhaps this Eclipse's seller wants to convey the awesomeness of his ride, and angled shots are cheaper than staging exploding tanker trucks behind it. Or, it's to show that driving a twin-turbo V6 swapped all-wheel-drive Eclipse will forever alter the driver's orientation of reality. No accidents. No rust. No modifications that can't be removed with minimal effort. Five-digit mileage, exactly two previous owners (both female, interestingly). Well we have one old battered but reliable but zero-option pickup in the driveway, along with two dead-reliable responsible fuel-efficient daily drivers. So clearly we need the most ridiculous, irresponsible, insane vehicle possible that is driveable, under $1500 and under 18 feet long(because that is how big our garage is).
