All Wheel Terror: 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Twin Turbo

The 3000GT VR4 was Mitsubishi's entry into the Japanese supercar wars of the 1990s and it was a technological tour-de-force of turbochargers and traction.  One turbo was not enough, so Mitsu used two, -- two wheels putting power to the pavement wasn't good enough, so they used four -- two wheels steering, hah, steer with all four!  Find this 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Twin Turbo here on eBay offered for $11,750 buy-it-now located in El Paso, TX.

10k: All Wheel Everything: 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Twin Turbo

I hate to rag on any particular manufacturer or brand (except for Lincoln...what is Ford thinking?!?!), but one of the 21st century disappointments has to be Mitsubishi.  Lets look at their 2015 lineup and match them up with one of the Seven Dwarves from Snow White.  Mirage -- Grumpy; Outlander-- Sleepy; Outlander Sport -- Bashful; Lancer -- Sneezy; iMiev -- Dopey; Lancer Evo -- Happy.  Where's Doc?  How did the product planners miss the most important of all the Dwarves, and they are going to cancel Happy after 2015 with no planned replacement.  How can they survive the next decade without making any noteworthy automobiles?  This wasn't always the case, and for a while Mitsubishi built some insanely complicated, but notoriously fast machines, like the 3000GT VR-4 -- and guess what? You can buy a used one for cheap.  Find this 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Twin Turbo offered for $10,000 in Amherst, MA via craigslist. Tip from Jdah.

5k: Canted Angles Sell Cars: 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse, VR4 swap

It's well known that angular shots add movement and excitement to the subject being photographed. Too many canted (or Dutch) angles on a horizontal subject like a car become like KFC's departed Double Down sandwich: too much of a good thing that just becomes nauseating. Perhaps this Eclipse's seller wants to convey the awesomeness of his ride, and angled shots are cheaper than staging exploding tanker trucks behind it. Or, it's to show that driving a twin-turbo V6 swapped all-wheel-drive Eclipse will forever alter the driver's orientation of reality. Either way, the effect is strangely hypnotic... maybe the technique works after all. Find this 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with VR4 swap in Tampa, FL for $5,500 via craigslist.

I mean, I literally can't stay awake because of how boring this picture is.

10k: Future Classic: 1994 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

The Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 was Mitsubishi's entry into the free-for-all cage match that was the 1990s Japanese sports car scene. Nissan had its turbocharged 300ZX and Skyline GT-R, Honda the superb NSX, Mazda the rotary screaming RX-7, Subaru sold a few funky SVX and even Toyota got in the ring with the bulletproof Supra, but the 3000 GT VR-4 was special...different...an eccentric madman in the clubhouse.  Find this 1994 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 offered for $11,000 in Houston, TX via NASIOC forums classifieds.

5k: Ultra-DSM: 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4

The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 was a monster of a Japanese sports tourer when first released in 1991 with its 300 horsepower twin turbo V6 mated to all four wheels.  It may have been a bit porky on the scales (3800 lbs) and complex, but it is destined to be a future collectible...umm...just not today...today it is really cheap.  Find this 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 offered for $7,000 in Fort Calhoun, NE via craigslist.  Tip from Andy L.

10k: Why So Cheap? 1992 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, Low Miles

Last week we discussed the Nissan 300ZX TT market and  asked why the NSX, Supra & Porsche 993 have appreciated in the last two decades, but the 300ZX has languished in sub 2-year-old Kia territory.  The big car missing from our discussion was the Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, another high-tech, high-power and high-complexity Japanese sports car from the 90s boom.  Today's example is sold from the original owner, features a shockingly low 30k miles on the odometer and is dirt cheap.  Find this 1992 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 for sale in Orange County, CA for $10,000 via craigslist.  Tip from Brian P.

10k: Fat Cat: 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 5-spd

The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 was the pinnacle of Japanese sportscar madness back in the mid 1990s.  It had room for four, a twin turbocharged V6 up front, power going to all four wheels, active rear-wheel steering, active aerodynamics and a profile wider than Kim Kardashian in Hammer pants.  When new, the 3000GT VR4 came with a price tag that would make even the biggest trust fund baby think twice, or at least wait 20 years for the prices to settle down.  Find this 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 for sale in Mount Joy, PA currently bidding for $7,850 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go on ebay.
