16V Turbo Powered: 1973 Saab 99

This next car tugs at my heartstrings a bit...not just because turbo...or because those wheels are wicked, or because manual gearbox...but mostly because I do miss the ole Draken DT project car. A more modern 16-valve turbo engine might give the 99 some needed thrust, but it won't fix the fact that this 46 year old hunk of steel was born of Jets but built by a bunch of crazy Swedes who thought exposed wiring terminals were fun and that a flywheel should be at the front of an engine. Find this 1973 Saab 99 16V Turbo here on eBay bidding for $916 with 4 days to go, located in Hatfield, MA. Tip from ME.

King of the K: 1991 Dodge Spirit R/T

You probably won't impress your neighbors or country club members driving the fastest four door sedan sold in the USA for 1991.  The Spirit R/T also has the distinction of being the quickest K-car ever produced by Chrysler which is akin to being the valedictorian of summer school.  The Spirit doesn't have sexy bodywork, but on the bright side it does have the 2.2 Series 3 turbo engine.  The Lotus designed four valve head that produced a 224 hp and 210 lbs of torque at only 2800 rpm.  The only available transmission was the A-568 5 speed which helped the car pull off 14.5 1/4 mile times.  Dodge only sold 1,208 of these for 1991 so they are near extinct twenty five years later.  Find this 1991 Dodge Spirit R/T for sale in Stratford, CT for $3,500 via craigslist.

5k: Winters Beatings: 1991 Volvo 740 GLE 16-Valve Wagon

Folks outside a few select locations don't have the luxury of driving a vintage convertible 12 months out of the year and sometimes even people who live near a tropical beach have to drive 42 miles in bumper-to-bumper traffic.  What this means is that the normal requirement for fun driving gets thrown out the window, and now you simply need a car that runs and fits as much crap on the inside while being as economical as possible.  What about this 4-cylinder powered, slushbox equipped wagon for less than three large?  Find this 1991 Volvo 740 GLE Wagon offered here on craigslist for $2,500 in Scripps Ranch, CA.
