Some Richard Petty fan built a pretty convincing replica of Petty's #43 Riverdale Plymouth, and with any luck the seller might have found a 426 Hemi to shove under the hood...or some 440 big block, or at least a 318 with a 2bbl carb mated to a 3-speed...
Yikes!! A 225 slant-6! I have to admit that was a surprise, and I love a good slant-6, but I'm not sure I'd have put so many stickers on the side.

This is a new level of looks can be deceiving. Reminds me of the caption 'screen images simulated' we see in commercials. The real question would be how big of a deal is it to swap in a big ground pounding v8. Anyone know what is involved? Rear axle, brakes, frame mods?
ReplyDeleteNot the original slant six either, at least not from the head gasket up... head and valve cover appear to be a late '70s version. Can't see the block to see if it's a later version too, but I suspect it is. Even though I've got a slant six project myself - it doesn't look like the right choice of motor here.
DeleteTo answer what's involved in swapping in a big block - there's motor mount kits to get the engine changed out with the stock K-member, you'll need a big block transmission (the slant six 904 won't bolt up and trying to make an adapter would be a very bad idea), and if there isn't a 8 3/4" axle back there, that needs to be addressed pronto. He seems to be running all drums and I would upgrade that even though I'm pretty sure you could get drums on a big block car (Chrysler let you do a lot of mix and matching whether it was a good idea or not). At least he's already put in a dual circuit master cylinder. So you're looking at a relatively involved swap but no major fabrication or unobtanium parts.
New K member for one to put a Big Block in it. But for a tribute car may be money ahead to leave it be.

ReplyDeleteI don't know how or why old fire trucks, tractors, unlimited hydroplanes, and the like attract customers but they seem to be a fixture of franchise steakhouses around here.
