15k: Ital-mer-ish: 1973 Jensen Interceptor Mk III

The Jensen Interceptor makes for an interesting statement in a classic car. It tells the world that you like classic American V8 power, Italian styling, and British execution.  Taken by each component, it really makes sense, but as a whole the Jensen is not extremely collectible and is sort of unloved step-child of the British car community.  Is the mix breeding the problem, or are there other forces at play?  Find this 1973 Jensen Interceptor Mk III here on eBay currently bidding for $15,200 reserve-not-met with a few hours to go.

 The Interceptor sheet metal was designed and fabricated by Carrozzeria Touring, a famous Italian coach builder known for building beautiful pre-war Alfas and BMWs.  The Interceptor doesn't isn't hautingly beautiful like an Alfa Romeo 8C, but it is a handsome alternative to late 1960s American muscle cars and stands out with its big muscle sound track and British badge.


The Interceptor used a 440 cubic inch Chrysler big block V8 that spat out 280 horsepower (SAE net) and gave the big coupe a great exhaust note and a wall of torque.  Mated to a 3-speed torqueflite automatic will fit the grand touring life and be great for cruising your local streets.


This particular Interceptor is in interesting condition -- the seller describes it as mostly original, but it would be surprising if Jensen applied such a thick layer of over spray to the spare tire from the factory...but who knows.

    I just want to know how to determine the gender of a car. I'm assuming one has to look underneath...

    Sold for $17,500. These have gone up recently in value for some odd reason. Maybe the same speculators who have driven up the Sunbeam Tiger are looking at these as a second choice? They look like a real maintenance nightmare to me. Then again, I'm not really a fan of "hybrid" classics. If I want British, I buy British. If I want Italian, I buy Italian, etc. The only exception being a Facel Vega, because they are so beautiful and only came with a Chrysler V8.:-)
