The BMW 2002 is a perfect car for a simple Friday commuter that can be used as a weekend cruiser and taken to any number of small Saturday morning car shows held in parking lots across the nation. The best part is that you don't need to be a electrical engineer to diagnose starting problems or a rocket scientist to keep it running. Cheap examples are out there, but you have to act quickly. Find this 1974 BMW 2002 offered for $6,900 via craigslist, located in San Diego, CA.
The BMW 2002 doesn't need to be the unobtainable turbo version or the pricey Tii to be enjoyable, even the most basic carburetor fed version offers fun motoring for the masses. Just take a look at enjoyment factor of Mrs CFlo's Schmetterling for a great example.
Details in the ad are sparse, but it looks like the seller has put Recaros in from another car (the 320i had factory Recaros IIRC). It has a freshly rebuilt engine mated to a manual gearbox and a number of recently replaced parts.

Picked up a 1 owner, 86k mile 1976 2002 a couple weekends ago. Had a bare metal resto in 2004 and she looks like new with no rust. Every service record, and a trunk full of spare parts, tools, and magazines from the 70's to present that had 2002 articles. Only problem is, when I see ones like this now, I'm wondering if I paid a little too much. It would make me feel MUCH better to see one of the shots of this one showing rusty frame rails or shock towers. ;-)
