In 2006 Porsche introduced a hardtop version of their popular Boxster sports car and took the unusual step of releasing the performance version first. Typically OEMs release the more pedestrian version of a car first, the proverbial foot in the water, but with the Cayman, Porsche cannon balled into the water and boy did it make a splash. The Cayman takes the Boxster's mid-engine flat-6 and adds a fixed roof to turn the torsional rigidity up to 11 --take that 911!! The Cayman S MSRP hit $60k before options when new, but the magic of depreciation has taken its toll and now even the most incorrigibly cheap DT reader can afford one! Find this 2006 Porsche Cayman S offered for $19,500 in Grand Rapids, MI via craigslist.
The Cayman S features the same 3.4 liter flat-6 from the Porsche Boxster that pushes a nifty 295 horsepower into the rear wheels all the while singing a fabulous aria out of the rear center exhaust exit. Expect 0-60 mph to be reached in just a tick less than 5.0 seconds with the 6-spd manual gearbox. The steering is sweet, heavy and direct; overall handling is nothing short of phenomenal.

ReplyDeleteSame her anon.....it seems like the best way to go is to find someone who has already had the $2-3k-ish preventative measures done, but then those usually are priced accordingly. Like any mod on a car, the best money to spend is the former owners.

DeleteIt got better in 06 with the bad single row design instead of the worse double row design, but the problem didn't get resolved totally until the 2009 DFI engines.
ReplyDeleteCould this be a bogus CL ad? I am alway suspicious of CL ads that only have street views of a car with no interior, engine, etc shots. Anyone can walk up to the car, take three pictures and post a CL ad.
ReplyDeleteSoil and coarseness can harm your outside's shell. Waxing isn't vital each time that you wash your Porsche, and should be possible each a little while. used car dealerships
