Old School: 1993 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

This next truck comes as a tip from Matt C who writes: Came very close to asking the seller about this one myself, but didn't have room to keep a truck this big until first gen Lightnings are worth real money. I wonder if I'll be kicking myself for passing this up in a decade or so.  I don't know if you'll need a decade to kick yourself for passing on this Lightning...because I almost called the seller instead of posting it!! Thunder Stick: 1993 Ford Lightning 5 speed

The first generation Ford Lightning pick up truck was marketed as a Mustang GT with a pick up bed.  The good folks from SVT worked their magic on a F150 and created a muscle truck complete with a brawny 5.8 engine and suspension make over.  The 1993-95 Lightning was not particularly quick new (definitely not now), but it was able to haul a real payload unlike the GMC Syclone.  Ford only fitted these trucks with E4OD auto trans, but today's example has been converted to a M5R2 5 speed manual transmission making it a rare bird worthy of DT readership eyes.  Find this 1993 Ford Lightning for sale in Northeast, CT for $9,500 via craigslist.

For this week's Thursday Twister, it is time to name your favorite special edition of a mass market car.  My choice is the SVT Lightning version of the Ford F-Series, which started off as a minor performance package in 1993 and ended up with as a supercharged street menace before being replaced by the Raptor.

The ninth generation of Ford's legendary F-series pickup was the first to get its own hot rod version -- the SVT Lightning. It was an attempt by Ford to offer a special version of the F-150 for hauling ass instead of hauling logs, and the handling was developed with the assistance of ex-Formula 1 and Scottish clay pigeon shooting champion, Sir Jackie Stewart.  The  SVT Lightning won't exactly keep up with a Cosworth powered Matra through Eau Rouge at Spa, but it is a cheap way to get into an interesting car with a good chance of being collectible some day.  Find this 1993 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning offered for $3,500 in Cincinnati, OH via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.
