TBird Turbo Power: 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis Wagon

Whenever someone (usually a new acquaintance, typically in an elevator, or other confined space with little escape like a sauna or an any gender restroom, who was trying to hide in his/her phone) asks me what, exactly, is Daily Turismo?  I pause, and attempt to articulate that it is a blog masquerading as a media company about cars...and specifically a curated collection of cool cars for sale.  But, what I should say is this -- it is a t-bird turbo swapped Mercury wagon from the 80s for a decent price.  Most will go back to their twitter rant, meme like-a-thon, or Pokemon Goat, but a few would get it and perk up.  For those few, I present this 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis Wagon offered for $3000 in Bethlehem, because where else would a chariot fit for a king be located?...oh...not that Bethlehem.  Right.  Bethlehem, PA. Marquis de Sad: 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis

The Mercury Grand Marquis was a badge engineered version of the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car.  It rode on the full sized Ford Platform in the mid 70s, but transferred (with its corporate stablemates) to the Panther platform in 1979 where it lived with the CrownCar through 2011.  Today's example comes from the late 80s when vinyl landau tops were in and shocks were underdamped.  Find this 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis offered for $4,000 in San Jose, CA via craigslist. 10k: Grandest Of Prix: 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix 389-V8

The GTO always takes the glory as the worlds first muscle car, but the Pontiac Grand Prix actually beat the GTO to the market by two years.  Both were heavily influenced by failed narcotics importer John Z DeLorean, featured big engines and minimalistic styling, but the GTO was on the intermediate sized A-body (Tempest) and the Grand Prix was on the full sized B-body (Catalina). In 1962 GM was enjoying a great start to the NASCAR Grand National season, they'd won 18 of the first 20 races and 12 of those wins were full sized Poncho two doors. 1962 was also the year that Pontiac introduced the Grand Prix.  The name hinted at its racing pedigree, after all, it had bucket seats and a center shift console, it had to be a sports car!
