Father's Day: 1980 Mercedes-Benz 240D

Happy Father's Day (a bit late maybe...but whatever) to all you fathers out in cyberspace -- this next car is something that looks like a car my dad drove back in the day and brings back a strong sense of nostagia for me.  My old man would get them with about 200k miles on the odo, drive them till 300k and then hand them down to one of the kids.  Yes, if something breaks it was expensive...but most everything could be mended with duct tape or ignored.  The seller says it has manual windows, which is good, but manual locks, which is bad...because it means the vacuum system for the locks is broken...but you can still manually lock and unlock 'em. Find this 1980 Mercedes-Benz 240D offered for $4700 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

Father's Day: What Would You Get For Your Dad?

My old man has this terrible habit of buying aged diesel Mercedes-Benz sedans and then driving them until the wheels fall off.  I think the current one has 450,000 miles on the clock, and while his years as a traveling salesman are long gone, his desire to breath diesel fumes and go slow is not.  I'd love to get him out of the German tank and into something like this '89 Jaguar XJS V12 offered for $16,500 on San Diego craigslist that came as a tip from fueltruck.  What about you, what do you think your old man should drive?  And happy Father's day to all!

Father's Day Special: What Car Would You Pick For Your Dad?

Happy Father's day to all you with kids, or pets that look like you, or both!  We thought it would be interesting to ask our readers what they would get their Dad from the automotive world.  Before having kids, my father used to drive such classics as an MG TF, 49 Ford, Chevy Vega, but once kids started popping out he changed to things like a sky blue Ford LTD sedan, a Dodge Van and later he discovered the wonderful world of Mercedes diesel sedans.  W123s littered my parents driveway many years ago, but his current ride is a W210 E300D that has something nearing 400k miles on the clock.  For a replacement, I can't think of anything better than this 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL currently bidding for $11,210 reserve-not-met with $22,500 buy-it-now on ebay, located in Santa Monica, CA.

Cheap Gift For Father's Day

Father's Day is coming up soon, and what better way to continue the commercialization of another religious holiday...wait...what?  Father's Day has always been a commercial "Hallmark" holiday?  Oh, well...carry on.  Last year I tried to introduce my kids to the Nepali celebration of Buwaako mukh herne din (बुवाको मुख हेर्ने दिन) (which in Nepali is literally "day for looking at father’s face").  They were not impressed and stared at me for a few moments like I had just grown horns and then went back to whatever they were doing, probably a hybrid soccer-kickboxing game that eventually leads to the youngest kid crying.  Of course, I went back to the garage, climbed under an old car and visualized ways to spend their college funds...rack & pinon, helical limited slip differential, titanium exhaust.   Anyway, it is time for father's day and it is our pleasure to make a few suggestions, like this sweet MagnoGrip Magnetic Wristband offered for $6.28 on Amazon with free shipping for prime members.
