The first generation (SA/FB) Mazda RX-7 was cool looking Japanese classic built from 1978 through 1985. Its lightweight chassis was equipped with pop-up headlights and an
engine located behind the front wheels for maximum fun. Find this original 40k mile 1985 Mazda RX-7 offered for $3800 via craigslist. Tip from Art C.
The lightweight rotary engine is located far back in the chassis and gives the RX-7 fantastic reflexes, but it is a bit low on torque and drinks fuel like a Freightliner. The Mazda 12A rotary engine puts out 111 horsepower and 109 ft-lbs of torque.
From the inside of the RX-7 you won't be able to tell that the car uses a live axle rear end (at least it is a decent 4-link setup), but its 2400 lb curb weight is easy to toss around.

Go Kermit or go home...a Savanna RX-7 Turbo. Forget finding one for sale in the States, unless you're prepared to import one. Or, better yet, just build one.
