Type Hoon: 1992 GMC Typhoon

The GMC Typhoon was the SUV version of the GMC Syclone -- both were turbo-V6 versions of a common compact truck/SUV platform with acceleration capabilities that would surprise anything on the street when new.  Today, with the proliferation of high compression direct injection engines, the Typhoon won't be the fastest thing on your block but it will certainly raise a few eyebrows.  Just swap out the ugly wheels on this one for something stock (included with sale according to seller) and enjoy. Find this 1992 GMC Typhoon offered for $14,500 in Orange County, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Tropical Stormer: 1992 GMC Typhoon

I'm not a big proponent of the wholesale price increases we've seen in the classic car world over the past few years (decade...?) ...but the market is free and that supply/demand tradeoff is going to drive prices up or down...but I think they'll only go up on a low-mile low-production oddball like a GMC Typhoon.  My only problem is that I'd put too many miles on this beast! Find this 1992 GMC Typhoon offered for $17,900 in Las Vegas, NV via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

Sportmachines Shop Truck: 1993 GMC Typhoon

This next SUV masquerading as a sports car is a submission from seller TEAM Sportmachines which is a supplier of various Typhoon, Syclone, and Sonoma GT parts, service, and speed.  The car is their shop truck which is covered in an appropriately nutty camo wrap and offered for a decent price.  Find this 1993 GMC Typhoon offered for $12,800 in Victor, NY via craigslist or on the Sportmachines.net website.

10k: Isentropic Thunder: 1992 GMC Typhoon

A typhoon is a tropical cyclone that starts in the Northwestern Pacific Basin -- it is really just a geographically specific name for a cyclone or hurricane when it occurs in the Pacific.  To graduate from being classified as a cyclone to typhoon requires wind speeds of at least 64 knots (74 mph) and big ones create massive destruction when they hit land (or the fool on a boat who doesn't get out of the way).  Typhoons destroy roadsigns, uproot things, and generally spread panic -- and I can't think of a better name for GMC's Jimmy SUV based performance machine from the '90s.  Find this 1992 GMC Typhoon offered here on craigslist for $8,000 in Hazel Park, MI.

10k: Stormy Weather: 1993 GMC Typhoon

The GMC Typhoon was a turbocharged version of the GMC Jimmy compact SUV and offered stunning straight line performance for the time.  A combination of all-wheel-drive and a big displacement turbocharged engine meant the Typhoon would leave more expensive sports cars like the Ferrari 348 and Chevy Corvette sitting in its wake.  Find this 1993 GMC  Typhoon for sale in Taos, NM for $12,500 via craigslist.  Tip from Paul M.

25 of 50: Megan: 1993 GMC Typhoon

The GMC Typhoon was a high performance version of the GMC Jimmy compact SUV, sold only from 1992-1993 as an experiment in fast but tippy autos.  Fast it was; with 280 horsepower and all wheel drive it had acceleration similar to a Ferrari 348, Chevy Corvette and Mistu 3000GT VR-4.  Today the Typhoon is a oddity and finding a good clean example is difficult...so we found one covered in bed liner instead.  At least you don't need to worry about door-dings.  Find this 1993 GMC Typhoon for sale in Carterville, IL for $6,200 on ebay with zero bids and a few hours to go.
