This next car comes as a tip from Kester who writes: On my shortlist of possible VW Eurovans.  Ohhh...zing!  Hacking 3 feet of length out of your van sorta defeats the purpose of having a van in the first place...but given the choice betwix this and a Smart Car...I'd drive this short bus. What was sold here new in the United States as the Volkswagen EuroVan was actually the 4th generation of the Transporter / Type 2 / Bus / Kombi / etc.  The EuroVan was the first of the bread loaf VW vans to have its engine and drive wheels up front, finally ditching the rear/rear setup of old and the rackity-clackity air cooled engines that typified the VeeDub Van experience.  Today's example is one of the cheapest asking prices I've seen for a EuroVan and makes me want to put on my hazmat suit and take a trip to New York. Come a' Knockin: 2002 Volkswagen EuroVan

What we knew here in the States as the Volkswagen EuroVan was technically the 4th generation of the Transporter / Type 2 / Bus / Kombi / etc, but was the first of the classic bread loaf VWs to have its engine and drive wheels up front, finally ditching the rear/rear setup of old. In its day it confused consumers and auto journalists alike, who couldn't quite peg it as the classic quirky Wolfsburg formula any longer, but it was also too tall & boxy to fit in with the rest of the FWD minivan crowd. From the perspective of 2016 we can see it was an early foray into the compact space efficient modern European van formula, which has crept its way into the US commercial & passenger vehicle landscape and is here to stay.
