No Fire Yet...Lots of Smoke

I hate to be a complainer, but this migration to Wordpress was far more complicated than I expected...but with a big help from Hugh (regular DT tipper and commenter) I was able to install Wordpress on a server twice (the first installation had to get nuked from orbit after a plugin went bad...it was the only way to be safe) and use a nifty blogger to Wordpress conversion tool, which is a pure brute force method and has about as much subtly as a winged midget racer.  This conversion tool is currently importing the almost 10,000 stories and 50,000 comments into the new environment..one piece at a time. Once that is done, we can get to the business of implementing the new look/feel and commenting system.

DT Transition to Wordpress

Just a quick update from the front office...or is this the back office...I dunno...anyway, we're still polishing the paint on the DT migration from Blogger to Wordpress, so please accept my apologies if feature content is low.  We will get back to posting the best collection of custom junk on the internet just as soon as this old paint buffs up to a nice shine.

DT Upgrades Planned For Later This Week

We've got some big changes planned for your favorite internet watering hole...but let me start at the beginning.  DailyTurismo was launched 8 years ago under the simple statement: This blog is a collection of the internet's best daily drivers on the road for $5-15k.  A few years later we amended our tag line to "the Internet's best fun cars, cheap daily drivers, vintage classics and custom junk, on the road for less than $20k" and did a massive site upgrade with new graphics from reader turned contributor Kaibeezy.  The new graphic elements and a few new tricks (recent comments widget, etc) were deployed but the site was still the same basic blog running on the blogger platform.  Fast forward to the year 2020 and DT hasn't changed much, but the internet has and scammers/spammers have certainly have. The blogger platform, which served us well in the beginning, has shown its age and is getting replaced with Wordpress...so expect a new look to DT, but with the same cool cars, cheap junk, wacky comments, and focused mission statement.

Coffee Brake: Stop the Corona Virus

I've been getting my inbox bombarded with notes from random faceless corporations telling me they've got a plan for this COVID-19 thing...so I feel like DT should make some official statement to the affect that we are canceling our Cars & Coughy meetings and minimizing co-sleeping in the office.  Yes.  Official and authoritative...we are asking our employees to work from home and we are implementing strict guidelines to minimize the affect on our employees and our bottom line while keeping our customers...uggg..I can't keep a straight face...

2016 Year In Review

by DT E-i-C Vince: 2016 was an interesting year here in the world of Daily Turismo.  Lots of ups, some downs, and plenty of crazy/interesting/cool/cheap/expensive/terrible cars.  Before I start down the meandering path of year in review style nostalgia, I first have to send a huge thanks to all of the people who make this site happen, including (but not limited to..and in no particular order) my wife (Sophia), CFlo, Mrs CFlo, Hunsbloger, Kaibeezy, Producer Ben, Ashley, Gianni, Andy Liss, PhiLOL, Matt, Glenn, Cory, Al, Adam, Michael B., and the scores of tippers/commenters/readers/haters/well-wishers who make this site the lively place that it is today.

What would a website be without change?  Well...if you really want to know, head over to NSYNC's website, which looks like it hasn't been updated since Timberlake exposed whatsherface's breast during a Super Bowl halftime show...seriously the site has links to myspace pages...which for young whippersnappers in the audience, is like facebook but without decency and privacy!  Anyway...I'm getting off track here...oh yeah, back to business, I'd like to welcome DT's latest contributor, a man who needs little introduction because he has been tipping, commenting, and writing stories for Daily Turismo since about the last time NSYNC updated their website.   He is Andy Liss, DT's latest contributing writer.

That's the famous 1988 quote by Steve Jobs, which he claimed to have stolen from Picasso, who apparently never said it, or if he did, stole it from William Faulkner, who stole it from Igor Stravinsky, who stole it from T.S. Eliot. Of course, in 1988, the Internet was a sprinkling of government and institutional nodes only beginning to transition from UUCP to TCP/IP, and so basically no stealable art.

DT Admin: Time To Change The Oil

The Daily Turismo has teams of skilled programmers working around the clock to constantly try to improve the user experience at this world class interweb site...okay...that isn't even remotely true since this website is just a light fender bender away from being declared a total loss.  Mostly we've got a fat hairy guy named Bob who yells at us about how we need to use more css scripts and foams in his goatee. That isn't true either, but we have sacked the guy who did the previous badges and suckered convinced regular tipper and contributor Kaibeezy to generate an entirely new catalog of badges of our cars.  What are badges?  The ridiculous lo-res images that appear at the top of each post, which have been redesigned to be hip, cool and totally ambiguous.  Pay attention.  If you can't figure this out, how are you going to rebuild the generator on that jalopy we featured and you bought with your life savings.

DT Introduces Wide Track

We've received some feedback from our readers that the DT layout was too cramped and narrow - so we have given it the Pontiac Wide-Track (tm) treatment (old layout was 1080 pixels wide, new is 1200).  We hope that our readers find the new width helps them maneuver the site with skillful sureness and accurate control.  Please accept our apologies if you are reading this site on an 8-inch CRT display and it now requires you put down your PBR to scroll right/left.  Comments below:

Our inbox at the Daily Turismo has recently been getting lots of submissions for ads from various people.  We appreciate hearing from everyone who reads Daily Turismo and see the following three kinds of emails on a regular basis.

1.  Reader submission:  You are a web surfing savant and found an awesome Sunbeam Alpine with S2000 drive-train and want to share it with us.  Great - just email us at tips@dailyturismo.com, if we like the posting we will post it up and give credit to the first person who sends us the tip.
