Jaguar coupes have been gorgeous cars since Ernesto Jaguar was a little boy sketching his designs on Big Chief Tablets, and the X100 generation XK was no exception. Assembled in Coventry from 1997 through 2006, the XK added some soft lines to the angular XJ coupe and evokes the legacy of the E-Type. Mechanical & electric parts aren't as troublesome and "release the smoke" prone as stuff from the 80s, but it isn't going to be as reliable as a Toyota or Ford or SsangYong...and the interior is only one frilly lamp shade short of being an actual brothel parlor (thanks doctordel!)...but it's a Jaaaaaaaag. Always like this generation of Jag... nice mix of new and old.
ReplyDeleteThese look really good but thankfully I can only imagine the horror of maintenance and upkeep.
DeleteWith Ford owning Jag since from '99 to '08 (i think it was '08) the quality definitely improved from what I've read, but also why some purists feel Ford's ownership discounted the "exclusive" brand some. Hell, look at that steering wheel. That screams Ford, LOL. A few years back, I was kicking around the idea of a pre-owned XKR. Owners seemed to be happy with their overall reliability, but I would still want an extended warranty. :D
DeleteThe Jag steering wheels weren't all that magical at that point in time...

Ahh the infamous Jagstang.
ReplyDeleteYeah, why the Powers That Be at Coventry had so much troubling matriculating their interiors (until recently) past some amorphous amalgam of Drakkar Noir and Members Only befuddles me. I suppose both of those would be found in said brothel parlour, so...there’s that...I guess.
ReplyDeleteBetter question for Vince et al is WTF, man? Do you absolutely HAVE to feature an enticingly cheap classic car that is accessibly priced AND about 30 minutes from my from door? Seriously, y’all. Who the hell put you in charge of procuring Doctordel’s Next Mistake in perpetuity?
Vince - He Cares!(tm)
DeleteYou had me at Drakkar Noir, then it reminded me of Obsession. Only 30 minutes from the door? Please post pics after purchase and being detailed! :D
DeleteI’d hate you if you weren’t on to something, Grant.
DeleteWhy do I have the feeling that I'm the worst kind of enabler friend? "Hey, let's just go out for a quick drink..." and the next morning we're staring at the leather boots of a Mexican prison guard...
DeleteBut seriously, how could anyone go wrong with this Jag?
