Welcome to another edition of the Thursday Twister, DT's favorite quiz game where the answers are written on the wall of men's rooms. Today, I want to bring up the subject of airbags -- not the aftermarket kind that can be used to slam your whip to the ground, but the stock kind that are used to maintain ride height in luxury automobiles. The twister today is simple -- just name all the factory air bag equipped cars.
I'll start with the Lincoln Mark VII that came with full air suspension at all four corners starting in 1984. This '89 Mark VII LSC has only 39k miles on the odometer and is bidding here on eBay for $2,025 reserve-not-met with 3 days to go.

ReplyDeleteThe '88-whatever Taurus-based Continental was notable for its ability to point its nose straight up whenever the right pedal was pushed hard. Credit the sloppy front suspension geometry and limp shock damping, not the 140HP 3.8-liter head-gasket-gobbler under the hood.
Oh, and as for the MkVII LSC - it's a Fox, many of the usual Mustang Fox chassis bits work (it's a Lincoln, so leave the rod-ends and hard urethane for someone else), all the Mustang Fox powertrain stuff will work.
ReplyDeleteA good one with a nicely-built 331ci smallblock, good T5, 3.55 rearend, '03 Cobra brakes, etc. could be an awfully nice driver.
My neighbor has an 89 Mark VII with airbags. Maybe I should say had airbags as they have been collapsed for at least 10 years. He still drives it daily.
