This "compact" offered a conventional alternative to the wacky rear-engined Corvair and could be powered with various powerplants by the mid 60s. Today the Chevy II is seen around the country in car shows with all manner of huge V8s shoved into the front, so to find a factory 283 SS version in survivor condition bidding for a reasonable amount of money is great.
