Pull The Cordia: 1988 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo

You can lump 80s Japanese cars into two categories -- the first is the appliance machines that came from Toyota or Honda -- they are reliable and efficient, but not particularly exciting or cool.  The second category is the oddballs, the weirdos, the Subarus, Mitsubishis, and Nissans of the world, the interesting cars that offer a combination of interesting looks with dubious reliability with some excitement sprinkled on top. Find this 1988 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo offered for $3,500 in Tampa Bay, FL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Plumbed for Plumbum: 1985 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR

Mitsubishi was probably at its peak during the 1980s after it bought out Chrysler Australia in 1980. Their Sigma sedan was a popular family car, the Colt an equally popular hatchback, and the Pajero sold well too. In 1983 they added a new model to the range; the Cordia. Unlike much of the range, not many people noticed it, and it remains overshadowed by its bigger brother, the Starion. It deserves to be noticed however, it was the precursor to the successful Eclipse line (which was never sold in Australia), making it a lot more important than its popularity might suggest. Find this 1985 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR for sale in Wetherill Park, NSW for $5,500 AUD ($4,100 USD at the time of writing) via gumtree.

1k: A What? 1988 Mitsubishi Cordia

Remember that What Am I? feature where we showed a picture of a car under a pile of rubble and after somebody solved the puzzle everybody in unison say, "a what?"  Yeah, this is one of those.  The rarest of the rare, a car that was so terrible that it has been collectively scrubbed from the minds of the world's car folks in some kind of mass post traumatic stress-amnesia.  Find this 1988 Mitsubishi Cordia offered for $600 in Fayetteville, GA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

1k: The Last One? 1986 Mitsubishi Cordia

This Monday's What Am I post featured a picture of a compacted Mitsubishi Cordia from Oakland Jeff, and some of DT's readers put on their detective hats/capes and solved it.  I even reached out to Murilee Martin from of Car & Driver and The Truth About Cars and he confirmed that this was a famous crushed Cordia that he personally knew about from various Bay Area car folks (small world, I guess...).  If you read the comments in the original feature you will see that Oakland Jeff checked the car up close and confirmed the Cordia provenance...exclusive pics after the jump!!  Anyway, it warmed up my taste buds for a piece of turbocharged Mitsubishi '80s awesome...but alas, I couldn't find one on craigslist, ebay or anywhere...in fact, the only Cordia I found for sale anywhere in the world is this 1986 Mitsubishi Cordia AC GSR offered for $1,500 AUD ($1,400 USD) in Victoria, Australia via carpoint.au.
