This next car comes as a tip from Johnny Bouncewell who writes: Man, I don't NEED another Viggen but this one sure is tempting.  Right number of doors, OEM wheels, and the proper six speed transmission.  Yes JB, you are correct, the combination of a 2.3 liter turbo-4 boosted to 230 horsepower is cool, but only 138 examples of the 3-door made it into the USA for the 2000 MY (764 over the 5 year model span)...so it is cool and rare. Boost me to heaven- 2000 Saab 9-3 Viggen Convertible

Born from jets was the Saab marketing tagline of this era.  The Viggen model was supposed to be a BMW E36 M3 competitor.  The serious torque steer the car developed gave the Viggen a somewhat dubious reputation in performance car circles.  Prices on the classic Saab 900's have already started to increase, but the steep depreciation on these 9-3's make them very affordable.  Find this 2000 Saab 9-3 Viggen Convertible for sale in Larchmont, NY for only $1,300 via craigslist.

The Saab Monster

The mystery Photo published in this Monday's Left-Handed Spanner was almost instantly identified by a Saabvant and first time anonymous commenter who subsequently picked the name Monsaabster.  You can read the entire Saab story in the comments; it is really a great story of an anonymous commenter finding his name --a real DT tearjerker.  Anyway, the car in question is a 1959 Saab Monster, a gutted Saab 93 that used twin inline-3 two stroke engines combined for 1.5 liters that pushed 138 horsepower into the front wheels.  Pictures from Kaibeezy's visit to the Saab Car Museum in Trollhättan.
