The E34 generation BMW 5-series was produced from 1988 through 1996 with an unusual (for BMW) range of engines offered over its lifetime. The collection of piston pumpers included the beastly S38 inline-6 in the M5, the sweet sounding M60 V8, a few junky inline-4s for Europe (including a 103 horsepower natural gas burner), and even some diesels (probably slower than the inline-4s)....however, this next one has had the volume turned up to 11. Find this 1995 BMW E34 540 Dinan 5 Supercharged offered for $8,500 in San Jose, CA via craigslist. This 540i is finished in what appears to be original BMW calypsorot-metallic, and I think it is one of the better colors to find your 5er wrapped in. The wheels are upsized from OE, but they look good and fit properly.
The 4.0 liter all-alloy M60 is force fed with a centrifugal supercharger, which should push the power up from the stock 282 horsepower. Power goes to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

I always wanted an E34 Bummer, even more so after watching the movie 'Ronin' a few too many times. The M5's of this generation seems tired/beat and over priced. This looks like a lot of fun for a fair price.
ReplyDeleteThis is a smoking good deal. Wish I could buy this and swap SC and suspension into my m60/6 swapped touring. Keep the calypso for a DD. ::bites fist::
