Prancing Deer: 1972 Triumph Stag Custom

The Triumph Stag was a 2+2 convertible sports tourer designed by Giovanni Michelotti (known for his work on the Triumph Spitfire, GT6, TR4, Ferrari 250/340/375, Maserati 3500/5000, and BMW 2002...you get the idea) and produced by Triumph. Today's Stag has been de-bumpered and the result is a car that looks more mid 60s Lotus or Ferrari than something from Coventry and with the addition of a Chevy V8 (big upgrade over the small 3 liter Triumph V8...maybe not in terms of cool, but certainly torque and power). Find this 1972 Triumph Stag Custom offered for $5100 in Tampa, FL via Facebash Marketrace. Tip from David S.

Needs More Engine: 1971 Triumph Stag

This next car comes as a tip from Zach Z, who asks "So what would you swap into this shell and why?".  The actual car doesn't look that bad, but the asking price is optimistic for something without an engine...but who am I to predict the future market value of a Hayabusa powered Triumph Stag?!? Find this 1971 Triumph Stag without engine offered for $4800 in Las Cruces, NM via craigslist.

No Joyrides: 1973 Triumph Stag

This next car comes as a tip from Zach Z who writes: "NO JOYRIDES in a British car most people have no idea exists. So don’t get any ideas." No joyrides? Should I tell the seller that every time I ride in a new car I am extremely joyful? Even the most terrible hooptie puts a smile on my face if it is a new experience...so take that Mr. NO JOYRIDES, if that's even your real name.  Anyway, find this 1973 Triumph Stag offered for $4399 in Harrison, AR via craigslist.

Sleeping Beauty: 1973 Triumph Stag Mk II

The Triumph Stag was a Giovanni Michelotti (known for his work on the BMW New Class, DAF/Volvo trucks, Triumph Spitfire, and various Ferrari/Maserati things) designed 4-seat convertible coupe that used a B-pillar roll hoop that connected to the windshield via a t-bar.  It isn't a bad looking classic, and is powered by a small British built V8 that is NOT the Rover 215.  Find this 1973 Triumph Stag Mk II offered for $6,750 in Chiraq, IL via craigslist.  Tip from Zach.

A Conversation: 1973 Triumph Stag

The following is an unscripted real world internet conversation about this 1973 Triumph Stag (offered for $1999 in SLC, UT) between DT's CFlo & tipper extraordinaire Zach.

Zach:  Somebody else's problem can now be yours. Engine inclusion unclear. That said, may clean up well. What engine would you put into it?

CFlo:  "Somebody else's problem can now be yours!"  That should be the headline of every used car ad, ever.

10k: V6 Powered: 1973 Triumph Stag

The Triumph Stag was a classy 2-seat semi-hardtop convertible designed by Giovanni Michelotti (designer of the BMW 2002 among other cars).  The T-top b-pillar roll hoop ruined an otherwise stunning design and Triumph's inability to produce a reliable new vehicle was noteworthy...but that didn't stop over 25,000 people around the world from buying one between 1970 and 1977.  Today's example has had its Triumph 3.0 liter V8 removed in favor of a 2.8 liter V6 from a German Ford -- find this 1973 Triumph Stag here on craigslist, offered for $9,900 in Pace, FL.  Tip from Randall.

10k: You'll Never Go Stag Again: 1972 Triumph Stag

The Triumph Stag was a classy 2-seat semi-hardtop convertible designed by Giovanni Michelotti (designer of the BMW 2002 among other cars).  The T-top b-pillar roll hoop ruined an otherwise stunning design and Triumph's inability to produce a reliable new vehicle put the final nail in the Stag's coffin.  The issues reported early on are not a problem you have to worry about in a 40 year old classic, as all the initial quality defects have long been ironed out in a car that has survived to today, but it still ruined the Stag's reputation for years to come.  Find this 1972 Triumph Stag for sale in San Rafael, CA for $12,000 via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.
