Not A Lemon: 1972 Citroën D Spécial

Everything in the world is relative.  When Amber Heard (whoever that is..how do the tabloids decide which vacuous dimwit they are going to pluck from obscurity to obsessively cover, anyway??) complains that her old boyfriend Johnny Depp wasn't rich or famous enough for her -- you've got to shake your head in confusion like you've been slapped silly with scissors-hands until you realize her current crush is Elon Musk....so when somebody says that his Citroen D Spécial is "very dependable," you've got to wonder what is his current ride? Find this 1972 Citroën D Spécial offered for $10,500 in the Town of Newburgh, via craigslist. Tip from Rock On.

Goddess Among Men: 1975 Citroen DS23 Pallas

From its inception in 1955 to the end of the line in 1975, the DS was always ahead of its time. From the oleopneumatic suspension to the semi-automatic gearbox it was truly revolutionary. However, in post-war France, development costs had to be cut, so the engine was always a bit pedestrian for the DS; it had its origins in the pre-war Traction Avant. By 1970 however, the engine got its chance in the form of electronic Bosch fuel injection, becoming an early adopter of injection. Find this 1975 Citroen DS23 Pallas for sale in Brunswick East, Victoria, Australia for $8,500 AUD ($6,300 USD at the time of writing).

Green Bean: 1972 Citroën DS Break Wagon

The Citroen (Citroën) DS was launched in 1955, a Franco-Italian project with engineering by André Lefèbvre and styling by Flaminio Bertoni.  You've probably spotted an old neglected DS (or ID) sitting forlornly at the side of the road like a beached whale -- her oleopneumatic suspension having lost the good fight.  But not today.  This one looks ready to put a smile on the face of any Francophile.  Find this 1972 Citroën DS Break Wagon offered for $14,000 in La Jolla, CA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

Oh, my, god. Becky, look at this 1968 Citroen DS21.

It looks like one of those DT guys' rides.
But, you know, who understands those DT guys? [scoff]
They only like it, because, it was a tip from Hugh, 'kay?

I can't believe it's just so round, it's like, out there, I mean— gross. Look!
It's just so... purple!

10k: Bedless Pickup: 1974 Citroën DS Camino

The Citroën DS (pronounced Déesse, like the French word for goddess) was a front-wheel-drive oddity built from 1955-1975. It featured a sophisticated oleopneumatic (oil-air) suspension instead of springs and oil shocks.  Pressurized nitrogen spheres at each corner work in conjunction with a 175 bar oil pump and a magical set of valves to allow a huge amount of suspension travel and variable spring/damping rates depending on road conditions and body movement.  It was all very complicated and expensive to repair, but when it worked it was sublime. When it didn't work the DS was abandoned on the side of the road like a dead porpoise, but prices were low for long enough that well equipped hot rodders (in the classic sense) were able to perform some magic on the goddess...El Camagic!!  Find this 1974 Citroën DS Camino offered for $9,000 in Running Springs, CA via craigslist.

10k: Broken Fish Hook: 1972 Citroën DS Break Wagon

The subject of this next feature very nearly became part of the DT fleet, but Fortuna's wheel spun a bearing and someone else got this beauty.  The plan was simple, I'd pickup a classic French wagon as penance for the various Francophobic philippics written on the pages of this site. I'd even spoken with the seller and arranged to go take a look at it, but the suddenly, like a woman who had sobered up after giving out her number at a darkened night club, the seller stopped returning my calls, text messages, faxes, singing telegrams, and hired goonsZut alors, sacrebleu, saperlipopette! Voleur! If you stole this French fry oil sprung 7-seater from me, fess up in the comments!  Find this 1972 Citroën DS Break Wagon offered no more for $8,900 in Long Beach, CA via craigslist.

5k: Idée Dix-neuf: 1965 Citroën ID19

The Citroën ID19 was a cheaper and lower powered version of the Citroën DS (pronounced Déesse as the french word for godess) sold from 1957-1975.  The ID used the same body as the basic DS, but was sold at a cheaper price point for those who still wanted the Bertoni and Lefèbvre designed body but did not want to pay 25% premium for the DS.  Find this 1965 Citroën ID19 for sale in Los Altos, CA currently bidding for $4,300 with 1 day to go.

Flash: Hell Camino: 1973 Citroën DS Pickup

The Citroën DS (pronounced Déesse, like the French word for goddess) was a front-wheel-drive oddity built from 1955-1975.  Citroën never made a pickup version of the DS...so....that means that any El Camino versions are "custom."  Find this 1973 Citroën DS pickup for sale in Long Beach, CA for an undisclosed price via craiglist. Big thanks to tip from the other Bill H.
