Ugly but so useful. Check where it was assembled. NonJapan assembly means head gasket issues.

When I was I kid on our farm when grandfather got a new car the old car would have its trunk lid removed, so as to facilitate carrying shovels, hay bales, and tools. I remember a 55 Buick Roadmaster, 57 Chevy, and then a Mercedes Benz 190 diesel that lasted for 20 years of off road use.

Of course my grandfather once got a cow on a San Francisco cable car, so it’s entirely possible that his automotive tastes were less mainstream than I imagined.
