This next Giorgetto Giugiaro designed classic was sold as the Dasher in the U.S. for a few years until it was dubbed Passat like in the rest of the world. This particular model is powered by a wheezy non-turbo diesel that makes it about as slow as a tectonic plate. At least it has the manual noise control...errr...gearbox. Find this 1980 Volkswagen Dasher offered for $4995 in Lilburn, GA via craigslist. Tip from Matt C.From the seller:

First time ever a manual transmission is being advertised as an automatic. Usually it's the other way around.
ReplyDeleteAin't that the truth. It drove me nuts when I was shopping for my current truck and wanted 8 cylinders and a clutch pedal.
DeleteSo... What really needs to happen is.... We buy the Phaeton W12 *and* this Dasher. The W12 is already oriented in the Phaeton chassis to be the perfect donor for a mid-engine application.
ReplyDeleteYou see where I am going here??
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools...
DeleteUm, would that not be "as slow as a TEUTONIC plate"......
