3k: Festurbocharged: 1991 Ford Festiva Turbo Project

The first generation Ford Festiva was a subcompact econobox  penaltybox that shared a common Mazda designed platform with the Mazda 121 and Kia Pride.  Stock versions of the Festiva in no way resembled anything festive, but with the proper application of the "Jay Leno" treatment, such as done to his Ford Festiva Shogun, we've learned that anything can be fun/fast.  Most folks don't have Mr Leno's cash resources, but just about anyone with an ashtray full of change can pickup today's 1991 Ford Festiva turbo project, currently for sale on craigslist for $3,500 in Vallejo, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Kaibeezy.


Jay's Shogun features a mid-mounted Taurus SHO engine shoved into a widebody Fiesta, but this little rat is powered by a 1.6 liter DOHC 4-banger from a Mercury Capri, boosted with some home brew hybrid T-bird turbo - it all sounds like a mix of repurposed parts in the true sense of the term "hot rod."  The seller mentions that he has raced and done well against E46 M3s, C5 Vettes, Mustangs & GTOs - a strong boast for a cheap front drive beater hatch.

    I was going to ask about how he had it smogged. But the ad says registered as non-op. Looks like it's a track-only car.
