Bracq Friday: 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL 4.5

The Paul Bracq styled W108 generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one of the better ways to get into a vintage sedan for a semi-daily driver. The performance is acceptable, ride is comfortable, build quality is exemplary, but most importantly -- drive one and you'll look like a king.  This next example isn't the most preserved or minty clean W108, but the price is nice.  Find this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL 4.5 offered for $2,200 in Santa Cruz, CA via craigslist.

5k: 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SEL; W108; Class on Wheels

Anyone who likes any Mercedes must certainly appreciate the worth of the W108 series vehicles with the 4.5 liter V8. These have long been a favorite choice for a daily driver. The last of the breed to be endowed with rock solid workmanship, allowing you to take your in-laws out to dinner in a 42 year old car, without having to listen to them gripe about why you haven't bought a Camry to properly chauffeur their daughter.  This well preserved 1971 280 SEL 4.5 is currently available on Ebay.  The bidding, at $6,450 with just hours to go, has not yet tripped the seller's reserve.
