All Saints' Day (Nov 1) is the celebration in the Roman Catholic (plus Eastern Orthodox and Anglican) tradition of those who have attained the beatific vision, but here at the Daily Turismo we have a tradition of posting a slightly less than beatific version of Roger Moore's ride from the hit 60s TV show called the Saint. The Saint was a British TV show from the 1960s staring Roger Moore as a James Bond mixed with Robin Hood character. The main character's ride was a white Volvo P1800 and it was a regular part of the show. This particular car is far from being ready for canonization, and has recently been repaited in a nice shade of metallic blue over its original red. If the paint job was well done (and you won't known until 6 months or a year after the paint is done) it could be well purchased at this price.
The 1.8 liter B18 inline-4 under the hood...well...in this case...exposed to the air...is good for around 115 horsepower and is mated to the stock 4 speed (with electric overdrive) transmission. The mechanical condition of this engine is a big unknown, but these are very durable pieces of cast iron that only need routine maintenance for years of service.
You will need to find a steering column, rear window, seats and a few other interior parts before you go driving around, but with some ingenuity and luck, this could be a great little runner. tips@dailyturismo.com
Well, in Mexico, it is the Day of the Dead. Maybe that also is appropriate for this car. A true basket case, complete with the baskets. Could be a fun project at the right price. "Ran when disemboweled".
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the color or why its missing the steering column. But none of that matters anyway. I've always wondered if that Yamaha based Volvo v8 could be put in an 1800's engine bay? If it does then all the original 1800 suspension would need an upgrade anyways. Now you all see why the missing column doesn't matter.
